One thing that is a bit challenging is finding a burger bun that doesn’t crumble after every bite taken. the BBQ dilemma keeps going on and on as many gluten free thrivers enjoy their burgers fully loaded with lettuce, tomato, and onions on a paper plate without the bun. There is just so much you can do with potato chips and pickle spears.
I went to dinner at a restaurant recently that offered gluten free hamburger buns. I graciously ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with a side salad. I was so excited because I hadn’t had a “burger” in a very long time. When I took a bite, I was so surprised to find that the bun was soft, moist, and did not fall apart in my hand. Best of all, it was extremely tasty. Sweet, with a savory little punch to it. The nutrition facts are pretty impressive, too!
SmartBUN, a product of the Smart Baking Company is available through online ordering, and is also available in some stores on the East coast, mainly right now in Florida and Virginia. Hopefully they are expanding. I met the owners at the Gluten Free For Life Expo and they are looking to get these buns in more stores up the coast.
Along with the SmartBUN, this company has smartcake. I tasted this and thought I had taken a trip back in time when I had Hostess Coffee Cakes in my lunchbox every day. Remember those? Well, it’s back, and gluten free. Their cinnamon cake is a great way to satisfy your sweet tooth without adding all the calories, fat and sugar.
